The Associated Press reported today that 7-time Tour de France champion, Lance Armstrong of Austin, Tex., will run the ING New York City Marathon for a second time on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007.
“I’m gonna do it again,” Armstrong said yesterday while on a break during a meeting of the President’s Cancer Panel in Jackson, Miss.
Armstrong made his marathon debut at New York last year, breaking three hours in 2:59:37. He was the 823rd man to cross the finish line, according to the event organizers, the New York Road Runners. He used the event to help raise money for cancer research through the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Armstrong said after last year’s race that it was “without a doubt the hardest physical thing I have ever done.”
Event organizers are happy to have Armstrong back. “Lance from last year was one of the stars of the show,” said Mary Wittenberg, president and CEO of the New York Road Runners through a spokesperson. “He was inspiring to millions of runners and non-runners, alike, and we welcome him back again for an encore.”
