USA sprinting sensation Xavier Carter has signed on to race at the Tyson Invitational next Friday night, February 9th, at the Randal Tyson Track Center, joining a growing list of international superstars at what is becoming the biggest indoor track meet in the country.
Carter, one of Team USA’s rising stars, posted the second fastest 200-meter time in the history of the event last spring at the Super Grand Prix meet in Lausanne, Switzerland and chose to begin the quest for his first world record at the Tyson Invitational in the 4×400-meter relay.
“We are honored that Xavier chose the Tyson Invitational to launch his 2007 season,” Tyson Invitational Meet Director Art Huff said. “He should have three very good relay teammates to work with and this could be a second event in which we see a world record. In the end I truly believe that there could be three world records set between the women’s 300, men’s 400 and men’s 4×400-meter relay.”
Other members of the Team USA relay squad could include world outdoor 400-meter silver medalist and relay gold medalist Andrew Rock as well as Fayetteville native and world 300-meter record holder Wallace Spearmon, Jr. Also planning to participate in the event is LaShawn Merritt who is expected to run in the open 400 meters, but could also play a major part in any relay records.
In other Tyson Invitational news, the event schedule for Friday night has been finalized, beginning at 8:00 p.m. with the men’s collegiate 5,000-meter run. The men’s 400 meters is scheduled for 8:25 p.m. with the potential world-record breaking women’s 300 set for 9:20 p.m. The 4×400-meter relay ends the night with a 9:55 p.m. start.
