I’m a big fan of Crystal Method for running (although ironically not the Nike iPod mix which is about as inspiring as a metronome). Some faves:

    Name of the Game
    Over the Line
    Roll It Up
    High Roller
    Keep Hope Alive

My favorite workout song is Conviction of the Heart by Kenny Loggins. Talk about motivation:

“One with the earth, with the sky
    One with everything in life
    I believe we’ll survive
    If we only try…”

    favorite workout songs…

    depends on the workout.

a hard paced work-out would include the following:

    metallica: call of the ktulu
rage against the machine: take the power back
    metallica: ride the lighting
    kmfdm: craze
    rage against the machine: freedom
    metallica: seek and destroy
    van halen: hot for teacher

a lighter workout usually goes to a jazzy compilation. maybe some latin or some salt peanuts (Dizzy).. depends on the mood. either way that’s some cool gear you’re giving away. thanks!

Like some others have said, my favorite workout songs depend on the mood that I’m in. I either go for club music (house) or hard rock, both which do a great job getting my adrenaline pumping.

As for the club songs - anything from Benny Benassi or the Benassi Bros gets me going. A few in particular are: Born to be Alive, Turn Me Up, Rocket in the Sky, California Dreamin, and Somebody’s Watchin Me. Also, the World is Mine by David Guetta is nuts!

And the rock - My all-time favorite pump-up song is Enter Sandman by Metallica. Another one of their songs, Fuel, is up there as well. I also max out my workouts with Breaking the Habit and Crawling by Linkin Park, Killing in the Name Of by Rage Against the Machine, Thunderstruck by AC/DC, and Welcome to the Jungle by Guns and Roses.

  9. Tim said:

Anything by Ministry, if I need a little motivation to get my arse moving.

How about “Enter Sandman” by Metallica — Every time Mariano Rivera comes in from the Yankees bullpen that songs comes on blaring - and all I want to do is get up and run. it is the ultimate pump-up song

  16. Jenny D said:

Though it will sound prissy, I do feel the need to observe that for safety reasons I do not believe it’s advisable to listen to an iPod while running outside! However for indoor treadmill/elliptical/ARC-type workouts, these are some songs that always get me feeling more energetic:

    Blondie, “Heart of Glass”
Brand New Heavies, “Dream on Dreamer”
Manu Chao, “Je ne t’aime plus”
    Prince, “Alphabet Street”
    The Roots, “Adrenaline”

  17. Kevin Johnson said:

U2 “Where the Streets Have No Name”
    Josephine Cameron “Long Night”
I have to have a balance of fast and moderate tempo otherwise I ruin my running pace.

  18. Jayson Mariano said:

I don’t have any workout songs! I’ve never tried listening to music during a run. Don’t even own a Walkman, much less an iPod.

However, if I were going to pick some songs that pick me up and put me in the mood to go for it, it would be an odd mix indeed: “R-E-S-P-E-C-T”, “This One’s for the Girls,” “You’re Just What I Needed,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” and any of the up-tempo songs from BRUCE’S “Seeger Sessions” albums — “Old Dan Tucker,” “John Henry,” and those other foot-stompin’ ballads.

You wouldn’t want me to DJ a party. :)
