The Nike Air Pegasus 2006 took home the Shoe of the Year Award at the second annual International Editor’s Choice Awards. The awards were given at a special ceremony following the conclusion of the Runner’s World International Shoe Summit; the now annual four-day conference which features nine international editions of Runner’s World and manufactures of the world’s leading running shoes. These manufacturer’s also use the event as a time to announce and promote their upcoming product lines.
The Nike Air Pegasus 2006 won the top award in five of the nine international editions. Editors liked the shoe’s comfort level; claiming the cushioning was superior. In addition the shoe tested well among wear-testers who said the shoe was by far the most comfortable to wear.
The Mizuno Wave Elixir won Best Debut of 2006 and the Best Innovation Award. The shoe was said to be “light, stable and responsive” according to the editors in the Netherlands and Belgium, and Sweden said the shoe was “a light and flexible shoe with a great mix of cushioning and stability.”
Brooks and Asics were also given awards for Best Innovation. Brooks is known for using environmentally friendly and “green” products (such as non-petroleum based rubber) in its manufacturing process. Asics was honored for creating a second-density gel that minimized the impact on both the vertical and lateral twists during pronation.
The shoes were tested by Runner’s World both here in the US and internationally by going through rigorous testing; including a mechanical test at Runner’s World Shoe Lab at Michigan State University.
