One of the best concepts of the year: Adeo Fitness Trainer by MotionLingo

Ever dreamed of having your own personal trainer or running coach that would work around your schedule, not cost a fortune and help you reach your goals? Well the concept behind the new Adeo Fitness Companion by Motion Lingo might just bring those dreams into reality.
Motion Lingo is a new and exciting company that specializes in GPS-enabled fitness products. The company’s flagship product is the ADEO (a-dee-oh), a device that’s about the size of the iPod mini and weighs only 2 ounces.
It automatically fades the music from your MP3 player to give you audible and programmed updates and then turns your music back up. These updates keep you motivated and informed on your progress; reporting on your pace, elevation, distance ran, calories burned, lap time and total elapsed time. The Adeo also keeps you updated on the battery status, time of day and your peak pace during the workout.
What’s the difference between the Adeo and the Nike+iPod Sporkit +? The Sporkit uses an inaccurate accelerometer and is only meant to work with the iPod nano and Nike + shoes. Conversely, the Adeo uses GPS satellites for what has been reported to be far more accurate results and universal compatibility with any mp3 player on the market.
In addition, unlike the Timex Bodylink, Suunto watches and the Garmin Forerunner, the Adeo uses audio updates so you don’t have the constant interruption of looking at your wrist, hitting buttons, etc (and believe me - if you’re trying to set a new P.R. or are running a big marathon, you’ll find yourself constantly looking at those products). Just connect the Adeo to your mp3 player, starting training and just listen; the Adeo will do the rest. The Adeo only costs about $150 (about half the price of Garmin Forerunner); making it a potential holiday gift for the funner or fitness enthusiast in your family.
By combining the audio updates from the Nike+iPod Sportkit + and the GPS technology used by the Forerunner and other training gadgets; the Adeo might just be the best concept of the year in the world of running and fitness.
In his weekly podcsst, which he records while actually running, Mr. Steve Runner commented:
Using the Adeo is like having both a coach and a flight recorder with you on your runs. I’ve been using mine for the past week, and I love it.
The Adeo uses an antenna to calibrate itself with a GPS system, using an average of four satellites at a time, to track tour route. Once the workout is over, the Adeo can hook up to a computer and coordinate with Google Maps to provide a picture of the your route. It also interacts with the free Motion Track Software to keep a detailed record of past, current and future training results.
Kevin C. Tofel explained:
As a former marathon runner and current cyclist and recreational runner, I can see a huge benefit for many people like me using this device. If you’re at all interested in increasing and monitoring your fitness level, the Adeo is definitely worth a look.
The Adeo Fitness Companion can also be used for walking, biking, hiking, blading, and even skiing (Although it’s not waterproof, so it shouldn’t be used for your swimming workouts). You can program the ADEO for different workouts and create custom settings for each of them.
Although we love the concept behind the Adeo; great concepts don’t always materialize into high-quality performance. That’s why The Final Sprint is currently testing the product. Our comprehensive TFS Review of the Adeo will be available shortly.
If you’ve tried the Adeo, we’d love to hear what you thought. Send us an email (thefinalsprint@gmail.com) and tell us all about it!

November 24th, 2006 at 12:27 pmSaying that the Nike+iPod Sport uses an “inaccurate accelerometer” is completely untrue.
The Nike+iPod Sport Kit is very accurate, works, both indoors and out (unlike the product above), and can be used with any brand of running shoes… not just the special Nike+ shoes.
I’ve written extensively about it on my Podophile.com website.
November 28th, 2006 at 4:56 pmI have had a really tough time with the Nike Product, unlike what podophile.com is talking about. This review is right on about the differences.
November 29th, 2006 at 6:32 pmNike products are terrible and way to overpriced. I liked the differences that this review gave.
November 29th, 2006 at 6:33 pmYou may like the differences listed in this article, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re wrong.

February 13th, 2007 at 10:03 pmGreat concept, sure. But awful.
The Motion Track software doesn’t work on my Vista computer and barely works on my XP based computer.
The software is cheap looking and the driver often has to be re-installed to make the ADEO connect.
Even worse, I have attempted to contact MotionLingo over 10 times having tried 15 different e-mail addresses (literally!!) and every single one of them bounced. The contact page has a form that doesn’t send, and there is no phone number.
Do I need to keep going?
