phone_razr.jpgWish that you could have all the advantages of a Nike+iPod Sportkit +, Garmin Forerunner, MP3 player, Google maps and even your cell phone with you on your run? Well now . . . YOU CAN with a “Wireless Run Tracker”-enabled mobile phone.

Runner’s World, Bones in Motion (an application development company) and various cell phone companies have teamed up to create “Wireless Run Tracker” - a service that will make runners of all levels and abilities, gadget lovers and technology enthusiasts all go wild.

For a fee of only $9.99 a month (added to your cell phone bill) you can use your GPS enabled cell phones on Verizon Wireless, Nextel and Sprint services to track/measure your runs, find/share routes, help you to avoid getting lost and see real-time information on your phone’s screen.

If your phone has MP3 playback, you can listen to your favorite music and stay pumped up throughout your run. All Nextel phones, the Verizon LG Chocolate and Verizon LG 8300 will even allow you to make phone calls while recording your path. (Although for safety reasons we would like to recommend that you stop running while making a phone call, haha)

Armbands are also available to protect your phone and free up your hands so you can focus on setting a new personal record.

The accompanying free and online running journal is called “Wireless Run Tracker ONLINE”. It stores the uploaded data from your runs; including: route information, speed, distance, elevation, location, pace and caloric burn. If you do want to use other gadgets, like a Forerunner or heart-rate monitor, that data can be imported to Wireless Tracker ONLINE. The online journal also lets you map out and find runs via Google maps, publish your data on your blog and more.

Check out the official website for more information and to see if your phone/service will support it.

Check back soon for a TFS Review of this service (We can’t wait to try it out!)
